Maureen Bradley, PT, DPT, CMTPT

Maureen graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with her Bachelor’s Degree in exercise and sport science. While there, she competed as a Division 1 softball player. From there, she went on to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from Marymount University in 2006. During her studies at Marymount, she completed an internship at VSI and was asked to join the staff right after graduation. Maureen is now the lead physical therapist on staff at VSI and helps run a partnership with Signature theatre where the performers come in for treatment with her weekly. She also completed all 3 levels of training earning her certification in dry needling (CMTPT). These specialties give Maureen a greater insight into developing treatment program for her patients. While away from the clinic, she spends a lot of time in youth sports, especially soccer, basketball and rugby with her 4 children.

Katriona Buhler, OTD, OTR/L, CHT, CLT, CEAS I

Katriona graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 where she spent time researching medications’ effects on the body. After a chance encounter with an occupational therapist who specialized in rehabilitation of the arm and hand, she went on to pursue a doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy at Washington University in St Louis, MO. After graduation, she spent 3 years working closely with a hand surgeon at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. and was then accepted to the Evelyn J. Mackin hand therapy fellowship at The Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center in Pennsylvania. Upon completion, she returned to the local area and joined a hand therapy team at a major local hospital and attained her Board Certification in Hand Therapy (CHT). She is also a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) and a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist I (CEAS) . She remains active in both the local and national hand therapy communities – speaking at the American Society for Hand Therapist’s national conference, publishing articles in national hand therapy journals, editing textbooks, and teaching at local universities. When not working, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, daughter, and their 2 dogs.

Shannon Cooley, DPT

Shannon graduated with honors from West Chester University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree while playing on the women’s soccer team. She continued her education at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine were she earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. She completed clinical rotations in orthopedics, gaining skills in manual therapy and treating the musculoskeletal system. She also completed clinical rotations in pediatrics at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital and a spinal cord injury rotation at University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute. Growing up, Shannon competed in competitive sports at all levels and currently enjoys helping patients of all ages with orthopedic conditions. Shannon continues to improve her knowledge and skills through continuing education in order to provide the most current treatment in assisting patients reach their goals. During her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, going to the beach, and spending time with her family and friends.

Alesa Deter PT, DPT, CMTPT

Alesa graduated with honors from Chadron State College in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She then earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She and her husband moved to the D.C. Metropolitan area after school and she began working at VSI, where she has been an integral part of the team since 2010. Alesa is continually taking courses, having attained certifications in dry needling (CMTPT) and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization therapy (IASTM), and has taken several courses including myofascial decompression, blood flow restriction therapy (BFR) and others to broaden her knowledge and add to her tool belt of treatment options. She specializes in orthopaedic and sports-related injuries for patients of all ages and backgrounds. In her free time, Alesa enjoys traveling, snowboarding, hiking, CrossFit, and leading an active lifestyle with her husband and 2 dogs. She is currently coaching Olympic Weightlifting to young adults and is pursuing a USAW level 1 certification.

Mike

Mike Hmara, PT, DPT, CMTPT

Mike received his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Radford University. While at Radford he played rugby, earned his first degree black belt in Hop Ki Do, and studied martial arts. Mike continued his education earning an Associate’s Degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant in 2000. After years of working in the physical thearpy field he went on to graduate from Neumann University with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. In 2017 , he became a certified in trigger point dry needling. Mike continues to improve his skills and knowledge through continuing education courses with a focus on manual therapy and functional mechanics. Outside of work, Mike likes to run, strength train, CrossFit, and paddle board to help him keep fit and healthy.

Khadija Kane, PT, DPT

Khadija graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from George Mason University. She continued her education at Marymount University graduating in 2018 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Throughout her undergraduate and graduate experiences, she developed skills in leadership and service, which she continues to utilize to assist the community through a variety of volunteer experiences. Khadija enjoys treating all orthopedic conditions especially those involving the lumbar spine and lower extremities.
Khadija has a passion for athletics through her own experience as a cross country and track athlete. This has led her to personal training and coaching strength and conditioning with the U19 Potomac Patriots Hockey Program. During her clinical affiliations in orthopedics, she was trained in manual therapy and sports rehabilitation. Khadija remains especially interested in therapeutic neuroscience and continues to further her knowledge in manipulative therapy.

JJ Kfoury, PT, DPT

JJ grew up in the northern Virginia area and spent many years travelling the country for ice hockey before attending the University of Southern Maine where she played Collegiate level Ice Hockey. JJ then attended the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston for her DPT program. JJ went on to work in Orthopedics but with an emphasis on treating children of all ages. JJ is certified in Blood Flow Restriction therapy and has experience with manual techniques including kinesiotaping and cupping therapy. JJ then went to work as a pediatric physical therapist for a local school system for 3 years before recently returning to orthopedics. With a heavy background in neurodevelopmental disorders from working in the school system, she enjoys treating a variety of children and adults alike. In her free time, she is an avid skier who has backcountry skied in many beautiful places including Colorado, Alaska, and British Columbia. She loves to exercise, and loves to spend time with friends, her family, husband and son.

Kelly McGraw, PT, DPT, CMTPT

Kelly graduated with honors from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 2011. She continued her education by earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from Marymount University in 2014. Kelly is certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling and Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy, and has taken many other continuing education courses during her time at Virginia Sportsmedicine Institute. She has lived in the Northern Virginia area her entire life, and discovered her love of Physical Therapy after numerous injuries from competitive gymnastics. Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband, Evan, her son, Miles, and her dog, Luna. She enjoys staying active as a member at Orangetheory Fitness.

Kylie McKirgan, PT, DPT

Kylie graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in 2019 with honors and furthered her education to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2022. She earned both of her degrees from Quinnipiac University. Kylie grew up in Indiana, PA and then moved to the D.C. area after school and started working at VSI. Kylie has strong interests in treating orthopaedics and sports related injuries of patients of all ages, and loves to see her patients return to the activities that they love to do. Her clinical experience spans numerous affiliations, including outpatient orthopaedics and acute cancer care rehabilitation at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Kylie continues to improve her skills and knowledge through continuing education courses. In her free time, Kylie loves to travel, ski, hike, bike and stay active.

Shane Mondloch, PTA

Shane graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science. From there he worked in outpatient PT as a tech full-time and then part-time while pursuing a PTA degree. He completed his degree in 2020 from NVCC. Shane has decided to again further his education by attending Neumann University where he is currently working towards becoming a doctor of physical therapy. He has over 7 years of experience working in outpatient clinics in some capacity and has experience treating a wide variety of patients. In his free time Shane enjoys pickleball, strength training, listening to podcasts, and spending time with friends.

Marco Morabito, DPT

Marco graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition Foods and Exercise from Virginia Tech in 2012. He then attended Touro College and graduated in 2015 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Since then, he has taken hundreds of hours in additional continuing education courses. This has led him to obtain additional certifications. Marco has a passion for health and fitness. He enjoys working out, the outdoors, and world traveling. He is passionate about physical therapy and is looking to pursue a certification in dry needling.

Aaron

Aaron Petty, PTA

Aaron is a fan of all things sports. He continues to play and coach basketball and baseball when he is not busy with his wife and four children. Aaron gained his exposure to physical therapy in high school while he was rehabbing from various sports related injuries. He pursued a degree in Physical Therapy and earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science as a Physical Therapist Assistant after graduating in 2000. Aaron also holds a Masters of Business Administration in Health Care Administration from Colorado Technical University. Aaron has 20 years of outpatient clinical experience in Sports Medicine and is also a Certified Personal Trainer. Aaron has worked at VSI for 17 years. He has taken additional course work in lower extremity biomechanics to evaluate and measure for custom foot orthotics.

Dianne Robbins, PTA

Dianne has been a valued employee at Virginia Sportsmedicine Institute for over 35 years and is our longest tenured physical therapy team member. Dianne helps coordinate our partnership with Signature Theatre keeping their performers healthy and on stage during their productions. Dianne is certified in kinesiology taping to help aid our clients return faster to their activities. She and her husband Mark have three daughters and 2 grandchildren.

Tom Stormer, PT, DPT

Tom graduated from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued his education by earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree from Marymount University. Tom’s main interests lie in outpatient physical therapy, hand therapy, post-op rehabilitation, and sports medicine. He has pursued further education in hand therapy, where he has skills to manage conditions ranging from osteoarthritis, dupuytren’s contracture, fractures, tendon and ligament injuries, as well as the fabrication of custom orthoses for the upper extremity. For management of orthopedic and sports medicine patients, he has certification in blood flow restriction therapy (BFR) to help active individuals return to the activities they enjoy. His clinical experience spans numerous affiliations, including outpatient orthopedics and acute care rehabilitation. He has also volunteered physical therapy services to those in need in rural parts of Costa Rica. He is a native of Northern Virginia and in his free time, Tom enjoys running, strength training, hiking, and kayaking.
